Daniel Chin |
|
Daniel is a professor of hyper-thermal dynamics at Columbia University, and is the husband of Jessica Priest. In her false life she is known as Jessica Anderson-Chin and is the stepmother to his two children. This second life allows her to play a "game" where she plays the part of a suburban wife and mother. They live in Queens New York, 3 blocks from the home of Wanda Blake and Terry Fitzgerald, and no one has any idea that she is a sadistic murderous secret agent working for Jason Wynn. |

Dead Zone |
|
According to Malebolgia, there are several Dead Zones - neutral starting points from which Hell places Heaven's agents, and Heaven places Malebolgia's hellspawn. Within the zones, all of a soul's powers are neutralized and everything is invisible to the eyes of mankind.
Over the years, both Heaven and Hell have sought to protect their own Dead Zones while trying to learn the locations of the opposing side's zones. Heaven had an ongoing relationship with the humans of the United States, including Jason Wynn.
Likewise, Hell also had working relationships with humans to protect their zones. At one point, they made a bargain with Jason Wynn to "switch sides" and assist them instead of Heaven.
According to Cogliostro, the specific Dead Zone in Rat City was a celestial safe zone - a small patch of Heaven on earth amid the alleys. It was able to hold back the power of Hell, even Spawn's powers, and thus it could be a dangerous place for a hellspawn.
Indeed it was dangerous for Al Simmons, who was brutally attacked there a number of times by the likes of the Violator, the Disciple, the Heap, Billy Kincaid, and the vampire Wolfram.
However, Spawn learned from Mother that the Dead Zone in his alleys was not a just a portal to Heaven as Cog had believed, but also a portal to Eden.
Later, the alley Dead Zone seemed to have no effect on the heavenly powers of Jim Downing, much to the dismay of Malebolgia. Downing seemed to find himself drawn to the location without ever realizing why.
His attraction to the Dead Zone led to its discovery by Bludd, who immediately recognized it as his opportunity to reach Heaven. Bludd planned to create an army to storm the gates of Heaven and eventually attack God himself. He began his plan by building a fortress (in the guise of a charity organization) around the Dead Zone to protect it and keep it hidden.
As Downing learned more about the Dead Zone, he discovered that its soil could be weaponized in a way - sprinkling it over an enemy seemed to neutralize their powers for a time.
After the return of Al Simmons as Spawn, the alley Dead Zone was also used as a passageway directly to Hell. Eventually, Spawn sealed all of the Dead Zones, trapping any visiting Angels and Demons on Earth.
This changed the entire power structure on Earth, as forces from Heaven and Hell were cut off from their superiors, and forced to live full-time amongst the humans.
