Spawn's fragmented memory reveals pieces of a mission 6 years ago to kill a man named Vesper in Gotham City. Eager to remember more, Spawn follows the clues to a new high rise being dedicated in Gotham.

Meanwhile, Batman is investigating the same case, and has been for over 6 years. Vesper has reappeared alive and strange things seem to be taking place which leads Batman to cross paths with Spawn. Together they try to uncover the mystery of Simon Vesper and how it relates to the Roanoke Island mystery over 400 years earlier.
